Sexual Double standards of Society
Homosexuality is perpetuated by the society and condemned by the same society. These strategies have to be understood. The same society condemns the homosexual, calls him perverted, criminal. There are still countries where homosexuality is punished, you can be sent to jail for ten years. There have been countries where a homosexual could have been sentenced to death! And it is the same society that creates it!
You divide man and woman apart so much, you create watertight compartments. And when the man wants to love he cannot find the woman, and the woman wants to love and she cannot find a man. Then, whatsoever is available... she starts falling in love with a woman, he starts falling in love with a man. And it is not satisfying either, but it is better than nothing. Nature has to find its way. If you don't allow the natural course, it will find some roundabout way. Otherwise homosexuality is a natural phase; it passes by itself.

What these Japanese women holding in their hand!?
The Hounen festival at Tagata shrine is one of the most famous (or infamous?) festivals in Japan. Every year on March 15 a huge two and a half meter wooden phallus is carried the short distance between two shrines attracting visitors from all over Japan and international media attention. The festival is fun with a lot of sake drinking; however the background of the festival is rather more serious. Hounen means bountiful year and like many cultures, Japan had numerous fertility rituals appealing to gods or spirits for a good harvest. Spring is the time of regeneration where seeds sprout and dormant trees and plants that seem to be dead come back to life.
The Hounen festival pays veneration to a female deity, Tamahime-no-mikoto, embodying agricultural fertility. Every year at the height of winter a new phallus is made from a single Japanese cypress tree and carved according to strict ritual. According to Shinto traditions newly made objects posses vitality. The phallus is a gift to the deity, which accompanies her visiting husband once a year.

PREMARITAL SEX...THE SITUATION in US
Recently I found a decent article on US sex patterns. I dont know if any such article/research on India is done before!?- Chella
Women's premarital sexual behavior has changed markedly in the last 50 years. During the 1940's, Kinsey, et al. (1948, 1953) found that about 10% of 17-year-old unmarried women and one-third of 25-year-old unmarried women had had intercourse. In the 1970's one-third of 13 to 15-year-olds and 50% of 17-year-old unmarried women and three-fourths of single college women had had intercourse and, moreover, 85% to 90% approve of premarital sex for themselves or others (Hunt, 1973, 1975; Hass, 1979, Playboy, 1976). A review of the 1988-90 General Social Survey also shows that a majority of American males have intercourse by 16-17, females by 17-18. Over 60% of 18 to 21-year-olds have had sex with more than one person. Premarital sex is increasingly common. Women who are better educated have more premarital sex, more sexual partners, masturbate more, and find oral sex more acceptable (Janus & Janus, 1993). Without doubt, we are getting sexually freer.

Fathers by Chance??!!
LONDON (Reuters) - One in 25 fathers could unknowingly be raising another man's child, British scientists said on Thursday. Researchers at Liverpool's John Moores University examined the findings of dozens of studies, published over the past 54 years, on cases of paternal discrepancy -- where a man is proved not to be the biological father of his child. The studies, most of them peer reviewed, came from countries as varied as the United States, Finland, New Zealand, South Africa and Mexico. The findings of the studies varied dramatically -- some concluded that only one man in 100 is not the father of his child while others put the figure as high as 30 percent. The Liverpool researchers calculated the median figure at around 4 percent, suggesting that as many as one in 25 men worldwide is not the biological father of a child he believes to be his."The importance lies not so much in the figure itself but in the implications, given that as a society we are increasingly making our decisions on the basis of genetics," said one of the researchers, Professor Mark Bellis. "If, for example, someone knows that their father had a history of hereditary heart disease, they might be tempted to alter their own diet," he told Reuters."Obviously they need to be making that decision on the basis of accurate information about who their father really is." Bellis said that while mix-ups of semen during artificial insemination accounted for some cases of paternal discrepancy, the majority were due to a woman having sexual relationships outside marriage. He said in Britain, 20 percent of women in marriages or long-term relationships have had affairs, adding that the figures for other developed countries was similar. Around a third of pregnancies in Britain are unplanned, increasing the risk of paternal discrepancy. Writing in the British Medical Association's Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the scientists called for further research in the area. "(We) cannot simply ignore this difficult issue," they said. Indians may be bit more secure. See how the future shocks are coming and as OSHO said the FAMILY as a structure may vanish in the next century?! - Chella

Sex & Masturbation, a Taboo ?!

In our society, sex is taboo from birth to the mid-teens--don't play with yourself, don't use "dirty" (sexual) words, don't read "filthy" (sexual) books or see R-rated movies, don't have sex until you are older and in love. But when you decide to have sex, you are supposed to immediately function perfectly, i.e. the virginal male is supposed to instantly be a wonderful, considerate lover and the virginal female immediately aware of what to do and how to be orgasmic. What foolish expectations (under those conditions). Everyone knows it can't work that way if young people aren't taught about sex are taught that sex is bad. Yet, starting with infants, hands are removed from the genitalia. At age 4 or 5 we are still being told not to touch ourselves "down there." Weinrich (1987) gives a delightful example of this prolonged early sex training:
- Mother sees her 4-year-old rubbing his penis through his pants and asks, "What are you doing?" (She knows what he is doing! But, yet, she asks.)
- The boy replies, "Nothing." (He knows what he was doing! But even at four, he knows to deny his actions.)
- Mother totally ignores his lie and denial, saying, "Well, stop it!"
- The boy indirectly admits the truth by responding, "Okay" and, with little apparent reaction, goes back to his play.
